My love of science and art is my main inspiration in life. I am curious and always looking for new projects. My work with natural pigments began with weathered, white linen drapes. I couldn’t bear to throw so much fabric away, so I began experimenting with indigo. I am happiest exploring protocols and learning about the cultural history of natural dyeing. I attend workshops around the world to learn new techniques and to meet fellow natural dyers (I highly recommend the workshops at Threads of Life in Bali and AVFKW in Oakland, CA). I mostly work with linen and vintage linen; cutch, a plant dye from Acacia catcechu is my current obsession. I have a PhD in biology (plant resources) and love all things plants. I currently spend most of the year in Asia teaching. I enjoy collaborative work, so reach out--I'd love to hear from you.
